Election 08

This morning's Palin/rnc news from ilsa:

my cousin, annie, was arrested monday morning with the protesters at the rnc. she's still in jail, hasn't given her name (in solidarity with most of those arrested), and should be arraigned later today. apparently those arrested are being denied medical attention, and even two minors have already been convicted and will spend 30 days in an adult jail. apparently police targeted protesters who were documenting the event, videographers and photographers (like annie).

What Is John McCain Scared Of?

Is he regretting his V.P. pick?

John McCain pulled out of his interview with Larry King on Tuesday because he didn't like a question posed to one of his top advisors by CNN correspondent Campbell Brown earlier in the day.

No, she didn't bring up Bristol Palin's teen pregnancy.

Brown simply asked the advisor for examples of a foreign-policy decision made by Republican V.P. pick Sarah Palin.

McCain said the questioning was 'over the line'.

Really????????

CNN said it disagreed and it is committed to covering both sides of issues.

Has Johnny boy lost it?!

also, palin is making quite a splash with the gossip rags:

Queen of the Tabloids

More ubiquitous than Michael Phelps, Alaska Governor Sara Palin is truly EVERYWHERE!

John McCain's V.P. pick is on the new covers of Us Weekly, OK!, People and even the National Enquirer too.

Joe Biden's got to step his game up!

This is excellent. Whether you follow politics or not, everyone sees the tabloids in the supermarket. This will probably be the first impression that millions of people have about Palin.

Sorry, I thought I was just posting about the tabloid thing. My first post and I outed myself as a blog newbie!

The police response to protests has been incredibly alarming. Granted, from what I've read, there have been "anarchist" numb skulls breaking windows, but arresting reporters, photographers, and videographers is appalling.

It's part of a larger efforts to stifle expression. In addition to the extreme response to protesters, they've refused to run billboards seen as critical of the GOP, even though the same ones were in Denver critical of the Dems.

This technology is beyond my ability to use. Nonetheless.

Who is in charge of policing a convvention city? Is it the St. Paul PD, or does secret service or FBI or whatever take charge? I'll be intrigued to read St. Paul native Garrison Keillor's take on all of this.

Anywho, worth noting that the Intrade prediction markets bumped up even more for Obama today (he's up 62-38). In 2004 the Intrade futures prediction market correctly predicted the outcome in all 50 states (Dr. Wu can confirm that maybe?).

the minneapolis police arrested a lot of the protesters, but there were some secret service involved. the st. paul sheriff's dept has been investigating the "anarchists" for over a year and know exactly who they are--they've been arrested. annie and all the others arrested (including amy goodman and her crew!) were literally just part of the march. there were some idiots, of course, who were breaking windows and shit. anyway, as soon as annie is released i'll get you more deets.

as for the intrade prediction market showing obama up by over 60. that is AWESOME.

also, as for the tabloids, i agree. i remember when i was canvassing in wisconsin and knocking on doors of the swing voters--when they let me in their house--i'd see people magazine, nat enq etc laying around. this will definitely have an impact. as will all the repugs having to go on the news shows and try and defend palin as the pick. it's such a waste of energy and air time.
