i'm still processing all of my reactions to this article, but on the whole i think it's good reading. lots of food for thought. and we dismiss the impact of palin's candidacy to our great risk. besides, you know i love the title of this article.

Interesting. I get why she admires Palin--there's no question that she's a tough woman. And, I get the argument that Dems shouldn't be so dogmatic, that part of feminism is a woman's right to speak her mind. I'm sure Palin's other female supporters share this admiration.
I also get her arguments about Dems message problems on abortion. But, while she says Dems have a contradiction in supporting abortion rights but not the death penalty, she says nothing of the inverse contradiction of Repugs sanctimoniously preaching about protecting the lives of zygotes while being so eager to execute adults that they balk at legal safeguards to ensure that those killed by the state are actually guilty.
What I don't get is how she can so easily dismiss Palin's stated positions. She mentions that maybe she's just an opportunist about evangelical Christianity and hardcore right wing politics. That's okay?!? And, she mentions that maybe if McCain's not around, then we'd have to worry about the appointment of conservative judges. Well, McCain's already declared that he wants more Alitos and Roberts on the Court.
In the end, this strikes me as the same thing that keeps getting us in trouble. I like the cut of his jib, so I don't care that he's going to cut all the programs that could help me. He's served his country honorably, so I don't care that he's got dangerously belligerent stances on foreign affairs. She's a tough, admirable woman, so I don't care that she has a history of abusing executive power. Honestly, I can't believe that someone as cool and smart as Paglia can so breezily dismiss the issues at stake in this election.
