Commentary

These two comments
Cognitive Dissonance and A Great Speech, For Both Bases from http://www.fivethirtyeight.com

offer a thoughtful and hopeful critique of Palin's speech. I still can't believe how many awful cynical things she threw out there, like criticizing the left wing establishment's support of Habeas Corpus rights for military detainees after going on and on about McCain's years as a POW, and how she essentially called Obama and McCain un-American for not serving in the military (remember a guy named John Forbes Kerry).

Well this gives me some hope. I was pretty depressed after her hateful speech last night, since it got such glowing reviews in the immediate aftermath.

honestly, after reading the leaked speech online i couldn't even bear to watch it. she said such mean things (i didn't even know you could mock someone for being a community organizer, it's such a noble job). as the ny times said today, that speech was probably the easiest thing she'll have to do over the next two months. and by being so vicious herself, she's just opening herself up to more attacks on her own experience and fitness for the job.

look, mccain is desperate and desperate people do crazy things. tighten your seatbelt folks!

Also, why is it worse to prepare yourself for being President for 25+ years as Obama has, than to just stumble into the VP position with at most 4 months of prep?
