Sassy woke up late this morning

great summary of the debate at tnr. basically how mccain argued by "cranky assertion" whereas barack used his experience as a law professor to his benefit (he can walk and talk at the same time!)

i liked this review coming as it does from a tv critic. i thought brokaw was a total pain in the ass last night, and shales calls him on it.

by the way, i am so sick of pundits saying that barack didn't deliver the "knock-out blow". what? is this all of a sudden a heavyweight match? no, it's a campaign for president. we don't want a big bully who tramples all over his oppenent and then kicks him when he's down. we just want someone who is smart, poised, thoughtful, a consensus-builder, and a leader when it's called for.

The pundits are crying out for that historic sound bite they can play over and over again. And, that will make their job easier.

Instead, we've got Barack smoothly progressing along and McCain slowly bleeding. You can't summarize that in a 5-second clip.

That said, the town hall format really worked to Barack's advantage. Should have been a no-brainer since it was a little like a small lecture class. Surely McCain is happy now that Barack didn't accept the challenge of multiple town hall across the country.
