This is the exact sort of thing that people are going to notice if and when the government does shut down. Then the shit will really hit the fan. The question is: does it then blow into the GOP's face or Obama's?
I share your fear. We should be hammering them on this but it's like we're crippled with the fear that we'll do this wrong. Unfortunately, I think a lot of the blame goes to Obama for this. He's got the bully pulpit. I think his calm, don't-burn-bridges approach has worked in several ways but I'm worried about this one.
I'm feeling a little less worried since the MSM is now reporting that the Planned Parenthood policy rider is the only sticking point. I don't think non-Tea Party people are going to be okay with the government shutting down because Republicans want to defund Planned Parenthood. Seems like a bit of overkill.
^^The downside there is, of course, policy riders being the only issues remaining means that Dems have given in on most of the budget demands. I wish I knew exactly which programs they are including in the $38 billion package of cuts.

i worry that the democratic PR machine isn't savvy enough to put this all on the Rs.
