Today Barack's really warming my bleeding liberal heart. First, I saw that he's invited an openly gay Episcopal bishop to say a prayer at a pre-Inauguration event on Sunday. Earlier, he tapped a female Evangelical pastor to lead the National Day of Prayer the day after the Inauguration. This makes me feel better about the fact that Rick Warren will be doing the invocation at the Inauguration proper. I'm hoping that Warren's a part of his message of bringing a divided populace back together, while the other two pastors reveal his commitment to pushing the progressive agenda. I'm still a little uncomfortable with all this official sanctioned prayer, though.
Second, there's tons in the news about Barack trying to right some of Bush's worst wrongs. The NYT leads with a story about how he'll release an EO on his first day calling for the closing of Guantanamo. The same story talks about how the new administration plans to immediately halt the military commission system. And, the WSJ includes a line in their story about Guantanamo saying that Barack will also soon issue an EO about interrogation methods. Good stuff all-around.
In administration news, both HRC and that physicist tapped for Energy, Steven Chu, have their confirmation hearings today.

how hilarious that bush is asking for 15 mins on the networks to say goodbye to the american people. that smells of desperation. also, did anyone watch his bizarre press conference? he kept trying to crack jokes that weren't funny (especially about katrina and the economic collapse) reminded me of how he mocked the woman on death row in texas back during his first campaign.
guess he's going out of office as pretty much the same human being he came in as. not a lot of growth.
Agreed. Even Scott McClellan took him to task saying that the only things W. mentioned as mistakes were basically PR gaffes. I think he really believes that he's right and that the rest of the world is wrong. Scary.
In a week W will take on his new role as the posterboy for the old agage, "If you don't pay attention to politics, you're destined to be governed by your inferiors."
Just a couple more days.
