Krugman is not pleased. i'm getting a little nervous myself. the health care debate is a mess and i'm afraid we'll end up with legislation that's meaningless. maybe rahm's "do it all at once" strategy isn't working so much. i know, i know, it's only been 9 months and obama inherited a country in distress. but still...
the money quote:
"It’s hard to avoid the sense that Mr. Obama has wasted months trying to appease people who can’t be appeased, and who take every concession as a sign that he can be rolled."

I'm a half-full guy, so I'll go with the other bit of spin now, which is that Obama gave and gave and gave the right a chance to participate, and they proved that their only interest was obstruction. So, now he/Dems can move forward with what they want in the name of Americans who do clearly favor reform. The end.

Brilliant, no?
Nate kinda sorta addresses this:

Also, incremental changes aren't totally awful. Haven't I read that lots of FDRs policy were slowly introduced and built up, so too medicare etc.
I'm sincerely more optimistic than ever about healthcare reform passing. Meaningful stuff too, not just pretend reform.
oh, has nate moved back to chicago? cuz until he does, i ain't reading his blog. traitor.
Atta girl!
I will say I do agree with Krugman about Obama frustrating lefties--why appease the haters? But, I do kind of think POTUS is some kind of Jedi who is thinking 10 steps ahead and I'm just going to enjoy the show.
BTW: my upper-middle class older brother cash-for-clunkered his 10-year old Jeep Cherokee for a new Honda Insight (hybrid). I think this was his son, U. of C. Kurt, having the influence.
