Holy Crap, It Actually Happened!

As we all know by now, the health care reform bill passed. Jonathan Chait of the TNR puts the victory in perspective: by getting HRC passed and staving off the worst of the economic crisis, Obama has already cemented his place as a "president of great historical import." Feel validated, folks! All of our canvassing, donations, and discussion helped make this happen.

Also of significance: the HRC bill also marked a tremendous professional coup for Bridget. It mandates a significant amount of money for home visiting services--something she's been working on for 5 years!

UPDATE: Krugman also puts things in perspective today. In short, he's happy to see that the Dems' positivity defeated GOP fear mongering. Amen.

Watching C-Span last night was more fun that seeing Avatar in 3D.

Even if somehow this ends up hurting Dems electorally--and that's really hard to imagine--it is such needed policy that we can live with poor midterms as a result.

And great news about Miss B.
And glad you aren't in Gaol in Galway based on some kind of ugly fish-n-chips incident.

Love the krugman piece. Soul of America indeed. I hate this word but as I watched the bill signing today all I could think was that Obama is a true hero.

I don't think you're overstating it, Ilsa. Obama really put himself on the line to get this passed. Pelosi also seems to be getting some richly deserved praise.

Crazy VP Joe could have behaved a little better at the ceremony, though. Funny, but not so presidential. I'd love to hang with the guy, though.
