Primaries!

It's gubernatorial primary day in Texas! I guess the Dems are having a primary, but it doesn't really matter. The GOP primary promises to be a corker, though. Incumbent Governor Rick Perry has skewed way right--secession talk right--in response to a challenge from Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. Perry's favored but might not get the 50 percent needed for an outright win because of the surprisingly strong Tea Party candidate, Debra Medina. Medina was actually possibly going to beat Hutchison (despite sharing a name with the second holiest city for Muslims) but lost momentum when she actually made Glenn Beck scoff by not flatly denying 9/11 "truther" conspiracy theories. Anyhow, the race could be tight.

Meanwhile, in our great state, our great party is scrambling to find a viable lieutenant governor nominee. Via Politico, the Illinois Democratic Party is literally asking people to apply online. I need to go update my resume!

i was hoping someone would post about texas! very interesting, poor kay bailey, caught up in all the anti-washington hatred.

oh, and what about the progressive who is challenging sen. lincoln? raised $4m in one day. that should be interesting to watch. and the mort zuckerman/harold ford switcheroo in NY.

seems like the mid-terms are going to be really interesting this year.

I've been wondering about the guy in Louisiana. How progressive is he? He is the Lt. Gov. in an awfully conservative state. I don't know too much about him other than Move On and the unions are backing him.

NY actually has me worried. Zuckerman would just add to the "centrist" Dems in the Senate. I know Gillibrand's a bit boring and not exactly Bernie Sanders, but she is left of Zuckerman.

But, you're right, the mid-terms will be interesting.

zuckerman is a total slime-ball. but at least he lives in New York!

i know nothing about the guy challenging Blanche except what i read on a blog this morning, but i do believe it's in the state of Arkansas. not Lousiana. and blanche is basically a republican. good riddance.

Right, right, Arkansas. Sorry, I got my corrupt Southern backwaters confused. Still, if he's from Arkansas, there's more chance that he's actually progressive. I guess I'm just leery about cutting off the hydra's head. Take Indiana. Yes, I'm happy to see Bayh go because he, too, is basically a Repug, but the Dem who's likely to run in his place is further to the right.
