Presser No. 2

Yeah, yeah, I know. Everyone's gonna be talking about the big Ef YOU that the Prez gave to Ed Henry at the end of the press conference. And it did rock, and proves that Rahm is rubbing off on Cool Hand Luke. But, mostly, I continue to be impressed that Barack gives multi-part answers to questions and then ties in reporter comments from earlier in the presser to make his point. It's like he's really smart or somethin'. And I love his point at the end about being how persistence will be a hallmark of administration, that we shouldn't expect him to solve massive, decades long problems in the first 60 days, and that all the haters and doubters should just chill the f*** out.

Nate has a good point too: "But there's a seed of something else too: he's motivated to prove his doubters wrong. One needs to remember that Obama was always more of a counter-puncher than a brawler during the campaign."

This is a negativity-free zone. Nice, supportive, loving comments only.

(and how cool is it that the Obama took questions from Politico, Ebony and Stars and Stripes!)

I have to admit that I didn't watch. I know, I know, poor commitment to my Obama-mania. But, in the coverage that I've read, some commenters have pointed out another positive: he took follow-up questions. W. was always testy and pretty much always cut off questioning, but our boy was much more open.

I watched (while Jess watched some old Disney cartoon with Goofy on a portable DVD player in the background...so it was like a simultaneous Obama and Bush presser) and was again reminded how refreshing it is to have the president be manifestly the smartest guy in the room.

Granted, it was a room full of blow-dryed reporters, but still it's nice.

I turned on Bill O'Reilly for his reaction (Ilsa, can I deviate from the love-talk when talking about that assbag?) and his complaint? Obama was too boring. He answered questions too much in depth. He could have answered way more questions if he didn't use so many, uh, words. Nice.

i know! i love how a week ago the MSM was complaining that Obama was too relaxed and funny (Leno), not taking things seriously enough (60 mins) and then last night he's too dry and detached (FOX, Trib, CNN, etc). i think they're just whiny, petulant, irrelevant brats. i mean, major asks that dumba** question last night about global currency. good lord.

I'd say the coverage has been a clear demonstration of how conservative the mainstream media really is. They may not all be Glenn Beck, but they definitely like their status and status quo.

I read another interesting blog post today about the fact that liberals are leading the way in calling out Barack on decisions he's made that align a little too closely to W.'s stances. It's quite a change from the lockstep adoration that the press had for W.
