Bayh not running

Bayh apparently isn't running for re-election. Not too much a surprise. Dave, what do you think?

when i read a quote like this, i think sex scandal:

"Democratic officials, who were caught surprise by the news, said it was a last-minute, personal decision"

Perhaps.
But with something inflatable....

Is there any chance that there is an actual human inside him, and he might push for real, meaningful health reform among the other blue dog type moderates as long as he doesn't have to worry about running for re-election?

I think Bayh saw the writing on the wall and realized that his state is shaking itself out of its Obama-enduced haze and resuming its role as a furiously red state, meaning that no Dem would have a chance.

He's been trying to shift right to meet this tide, but it hasn't been enough. He's going down and he wants to avoid embarrassment.

As for whether he'll now help HRC, I doubt it. That would take backbone and motivation. Up until now, his major achievement has been being born Birch Bayh's son.

i agree, dave. my first thought when i saw this announcement was that bayh wouldn't want to do the work this campaign will require. lazy. though politico and others did think he was going to win, it wasn't going to be easy.

According to TPM - as of last Thursday night, Bayh was lining up interviews with local press and planning to file to run.

PLUS, because of his last minute decision, Dems don't have time to line up a strong candidate.

Smelling more and more like scandal to me.

I'm starting the rumor that Bayh is the actual baby-daddy of Rielle Hunter's child.
