Thankfully, Cohen's Dropping Out

Phew! Embattled Democratic lieutenant governor nominee and overall scumbag, Scott Lee Cohen has agreed to leave the ticket. The bad news: now our lieutenant governor candidate will be chosen by a 38-member committee. Democracy in action! Please, oh please, do a background check!

the sun-times is saying that Hynes is interested. anyway, i'm sure it will be whoever madigan supported in the primary.

LG's arent important until you impeach the governor, which may be happening in NY again. unbelievable.

I think Todd Stroger's calendar is pretty wide open for next year.

Based on your prediction of Madigan's guy getting the job, Ilsa, it seems that Turner's the likely choice.

As for NY, who could have predicted more salacious rumors and scandal? Didn't Patterson hint that he and his wife swing? Seriously.

Wonkette just posted video from Cohen's announcement. I think he just looked like an ass. First, he schedules the announcement during the Super Bowl and gives it from the bar at which he and his family are watching the game. Rude.

Second, he had his kids up there in front of the cameras with him, one of whom was hiding his face and crying. That's bullshit. Let you son out of the spotlights and give him some privacy. Dick. I'm sick of politicians trotting their kids in front of cameras as props (and, yes, I'm a little leery of how the Obamas use Sasha and Malia).

You know, i'm almost beginning to get the sense that Dave may not like Scott Lee Cohen.

Regarding kids and photo ops, or whatever, this is one I can totally get behind (sweet headgear too!):

There's a fundamental difference between having your kids up to celebrate something and using them as a shield against the press. Probably the lowest example I've seen is when Barry Bonds hauled his son in front of the cameras and even said, "You see what you're doing to my kid." Serious asshole move.
