I am loathe to move past the wretched Wisconsin GOP and Weiner's wiener but I think that Jon Stewart absolutely nailed the Sarah Palin Revere gaffe. And, really, that's more our sweet spot:

Another Sassy favorite, Chuck Todd, says that McCain can't win even if we wins all the toss-ups. So there.

Also, I was really sorry to hear the news about Dick Durbin's daughter, who passed away yesterday. In Illinois we love Senator Durbin. A good, sweet guy.

Palin Gaffe Count: 10

Today, Palin proposed a program for government transparency that already exists. Oh, who lead this effort with Sen. Coburn to get it passed? Barack. Who co-sponsored the original bill? Her running mate, McCain.

Next up, she will reform the legislative process to require that the president signs off on all laws.

UPDATE: Another gaffe might have been marrying Todd. TPM put together a delightfully awkward collection of clips from Greta Van Susteren interviewing Todd. It's like watching a nine-year old on a talk show.

Palin Gaffe Count: 4? 8? 9?

Okay, here's where I think we are:

1. Fannie and Freddie
2. Bush Doctrine (although, in reading summaries, I see that she really made about 5 gaffes in the whole foreign policy discussion)
3. Entitlements--In the Gibson interview, she talked about trying to find "efficiencies in the agencies" of entitlement programs. Such as, cheaper postage for Welfare checks?
4. AIG--She talked about the "construction bonds" AIG holds. No one seems to no what the heck that means.

So, I think we're at 4, but if we itemize the whole foreign policy debacle, we could be up to 8 or 9. At least the hard-hitting Hannity interview was smooth sailing.

Palin Gaffe Count: 1

It's a landmark day, as we have our first Palin gaffe. Personally, I don't think much will come of this one. Even though it's about a serious issue, the actual workings of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, it doesn't seem soundbite worthy. But, I'm hoping it's part of a trend. So, I plan on trying to keep a Palin Gaffe Count. I guess this is probably our best hope for the Gibson interview, that he'll ask her a question about something she hadn't really prepared for and that she trips up.
