Lieberman to Keep Committee Chairmanship

Stupid, wimpy democrats.

UPDATE:

I'm with Kos, I think Reid should lose his leadership post. This isn't leadership, its capitulation and I am sick of it. Let's toss him out and insert Hillary as Majority Leader.

Today's lesson

Tue Nov 18, 2008 at 09:59:53 AM PST

Jane Hamsher:

Asked what it would mean if Lieberman kept his chairmanship, one Senate Democratic aide said bluntly: "The left has been foiled again. They can rant and rage but they still do not put the fear into folks to actually change their votes. Their influence would be in question."

I hope this puts to rest the notion that this is all some master stroke of kumbayah, of keeping your friends close and your enemies closer.

This is about telling you that you mean nothing. That democracy is a nice word, but it should never threaten the entitlement of the most exclusive club in the world.

No matter what Joe Lieberman does, the people who are protecting him hate you much more than they hate him.

There's that. But there's also disdain for the American electorate that voted in overwhelming numbers for change from the discredited Bush/McCain/Lieberman policies. But in a city known for tone-deafness, there clearly isn't a more tone-deaf group than the Senate Dems.

I'm done with Reid as Senate leader.

Horseshit! I can't believe they let that mealy-mouthed, fair-weather Dem keep his post.

This is so incredibly infuriating and yet totally predictable. I definitely vote for Hillary for Majority Leader.

So you DC-insider types, is there nothing now that can be done to punish Lieberman? Punish and humiliate, I should say. Do they at least take away his key to the executive loo, or make him clear the dishes in the senate dining room?

Or does he just float along unscathed? Cuz, that's nuts.

we might have to wait four years for the good people of connecticut to punish him for us.

Make no mistake, this came from Obama. He promised to put aside partisanship to reach across the aisle and do what is best for the country. Allowing Lieberman to be punished for supporting John McCain would have been the exact opposite of that. The message would have been, "new face, but same old partisan nonsense."

We're kicking out a weak-minded president who couldn't tolerate viewpoints different from his own. It's heartening to see that the incoming president is strong enough to work with those who stood against him just a few weeks ago. As Lincoln once said, "Am I not destroying my enemies by making them my friends?"

Agree completely, Briain. Even if emotionally it doesn't feel good, intellectually it was the right play.

And but so, it also means Obama *owns* Lieberman.
