That's ridiculous. It's galling that this is even going to be a close vote. Honestly, at this point I think he's probably going to get to keep his place in the caucus. Even though Barack has said the Dems should let bygones be bygones, if the Senate Dems do keep Lieberman, I think it'd be a slap in the face to Obama.
Hmm. Maybe this is a sign that I'm wrong about how the vote will go. Tom Carper of Delaware has joined the small chorus of senators calling for Lieberman to be punished. Honestly, I couldn't have named Carper as the junior senator from Delaware, but Wash Monthly thinks this is significant because he was supposed to be one of Lierman's chief supporters.
Carper noted an interview that many of his Dem colleagues are "very angry" at Lieberman. Maybe he won't be retained after all.

Not probable, but maybe a vaguely plausible scenario here???:
Obama is cool with the senate punishing Joe despite he (Obama) saying Joe should keep his chair.
Why?
-It allows B.O. to be seen as all statesmanlike and above the fray, while the Senate is perceived as wallowing in typical attack politics.
-It refutes the meme that a unified Dem Party in the W.H. and Congress is "bad for America." Hey, how bad can we be if we don't agree on this!
-It still throws Joe to the curb, but for the 7 supporters he still has, they will think highly of Obama.
