Blago arrested by Feds this morning

Chicagoans will not be completely surprised by this however, I am absolutely stunned by the breadth of charges against Rod: trying to sell the Senate seat for a job?? Trying to get Trib editorial board members fired? This guy is going away for a long time. Patrick Fitzgerald doesn't f*** around.

Update 9:35: apparently Blago was also trying to secure favors for his wife (including $150K board appointments) so I wonder if she'll be charged as well. Maybe now we can get Rod'sridiculous free passes for all seniors on the CTA program cancelled. It practically bankrupted the CTA.

Also, I suspect this turn of events may make Durbin's request for a commutation for Ryan extremely unlikely.

Pretty much time for Illinois to follow our good and wise friends in Minnesota and turn to a former professional wrestler to be our governer.

I'm partial to Junk Yard Dog, but Sargeant Slaughter might carry the pro-military constits pretty strongly. Nate Silver needs to weigh in on this.

Who makes the appointment now to Obama's seat? Hopefully Liet. Gov Pat Quinn, who is mavericky.

Do you think IL is still going to do business w/ BofA now?

Suzy, I'm guessing since Blago said they wouldn't, now they absolutely will! The policy will be: whatever Rod was for, we are against (and vice versa).

Patrick Fitzgerald really is awesome. Can he be governor?

Personal note: I know a prosecutor who works in Fitzgerald's office as well as an FBI agent in the public corruption section of the Chicago office, and these folks have told me that those working for/with Fitzgerald would run through a brick wall for the guy.

He likes to get the bad guys. Someday, he'd make a great AG, though I'm sure Mayor Daley would love to see him gone...
