Announcement from McC:
Senator McCain has spent the morning talking to members of the Administration, members of the Senate, and members of the House. He is optimistic that there has been significant progress toward a bipartisan agreement now that there is a framework for all parties to be represented in negotiations, including Representative Blunt as a designated negotiator for House Republicans. The McCain campaign is resuming all activities and the Senator will travel to the debate this afternoon. Following the debate, he will return to Washington to ensure that all voices and interests are represented in the final agreement, especially those of taxpayers and homeowners.
meanwhile, as everyone knows the campaign was never suspended and mccain has absolutely nothing to do with the bailout negotiations. and jim lehrer has officially reserved the right to ask whatever he questions he wants tonight. as he said in an email to NYT "stay tuned!".

So, as predicted, he's trying to take credit for any deal and blame Barack for the clusterfuck the he and his House GOP mates caused.
Ilsa, earlier you called for Barack to step up and lead. Interestingly, the NYT analysis of yesterday's White House meetings pretty much said that he was the one who acted presidential. Apparently, McCain sat on his hands the whole time, barely saying anything, and wouldn't commit to supporting the House GOP plan. Barack, meanwhile, "peppered" Paulson with questions.
yeah, and the NYT is the only one who covered that story. i saw that picked up in a few places but only briefly. i still think he needs to step it up a bit or at least take credit.
