Nate Silver makes the case that the debates might not have much of an impact (a relief after yesterday's NYT article that basically said Obama is an arrogant jerk in debates and McC the winsome jokester )

Finally: Bush is considering a prime-time address tonight to push for his bailout plan. Excellent! Remind the voters who's still in office and why we need to get him and his kind the hell out.

And, WaPo has a poll with Barack leading 52-43% among likely voters. Apparently, neither Gore nor Kerry registered above 50% on this poll--and Gore won!

Even more on that WaPo/ABC poll:

"No candidate over 50% support in Sept. has lost since 1948."

Of course, this is a whole nuther kind of election. But, still.

Do I detect a hint of (dare I say it?) optimism from Dave and John? Refreshing.

Not so fast. John and I are still primed for a huge pessimism bender if McCain's numbers swing up again for whatever reason.

John's been primed for huge pessimism benders (great phrase btw) for years now: Cubs.
