A Note to Bill Clinton

i'm not sure i think this is all about hillary. i think it's more about bill--his fears over no longer being the head of the democratic party, his anger over the media attacks he personally and rightly received on the primary campaign trail (for being out of touch, vaguely racist, ego-centric) and his general frustration over his diminishing relevance.

I think Bill Clinton's problem is one of legacy. He has none. There were no major crises during his administration. He had no aggressive super-power to face down. Unprecedented economic prosperity is great when you're living it, but it's not sexy enough to get you more than a paragraph in an American history textbook.

To make it worse, he's sandwiched between the end of the cold war and the worst president in the history of the United States. It's really not Clinton's fault, but W's rampant incompetence, complete disregard for the Constitution and disinclination to take advice from anyone who doesn't agree with him will end up having a much greater historic impact than Clinton's presidency.

Now, if Hillary were to become president (God forbid), then Bill would have at least some kind of legacy. So I wonder if he's subtly trying to tank Obama without looking like he's tanking Obama so that Hillary can run again in 2012.

I'm Brian, and I endorse this post (also, if you don't like this post, then Bridget owes you a beer). ;)
